I've been preaching to my kids about healthy eating and here're some nice illustrations (http://www.bebetterhealth.com/tipsandtechniques_article04.html) and notes: 

1/2 Plate of Fruits & Vegetables: Variety and colors are key; raw, fresh, cooked, frozen, and dried are all options; buy fresh when in season; try pre-cut products for convenience; stream, grill, saute; try using herbs, fat free dressings, lemon, or lime jouce for flavoring; limit high calorie sauces and dips

1/4 Plate of Whole Grains: look for products with 2-3 grams of fiber per serving

1/4 Plate of lean meat or protein
