If you need to visit a doctor, you may need to see your family doctor or a general practitioner first, then you may be referred an orthopedist or a sports medicine specialist.
For self treatment, first, protect your knee with compression wrap; try to find one that is lightweight, breathable and self-adhesive and tight enough to support your knee without interfering with circulation. This will help you to prevent fluid buildup (edema) in damaged tissues and maintains knee alignment and stability. I wear a knee pad during winter time.
When you rest, elevate your knee with a pillow or use a recliner. This will help to drain the fluid away after injury.
If your injury is new, using ice for the first 48 hours, then you can use a heat pad or the Fir pad I mention above. For ordering the FIR pad, I will send a message to you.
You can take MSM and glucosamine tablets or apply them topically. I will also send a message to you for whereabouts to purchase them.
