I know someone who has the same problem as yours for many years and tried many treatments. The family doctor told him above simple method, and now, he stops all medicine and does not suffer anymore.
But, whenever he stops washing for a couple of days, the itching comes back immediately.
It does have something to do with the hemorrhoids, even though his is not very severe.
