It is unfortunate that your mom were sick and with a huge medical bill. However, the medical bill is HER responsibility, not YOURS! And it is unfortunate that your mom cannot pay the bill. Hospitals and physicians do provide charity work as the nature of this society.
If the bills keep coming, write a letter to the billing department explaining your mother's financial situation to show you are a responsible person. But I don't think you are, legally, responsible for her bills. Any health care professionals know hospitals have tons of dead bills each year.
