Many patients with advanced liver cancer die on the waiting list for liver transplatation. Therefore if their life can be extended by 3+months, it is truly a breakthrough, and many lives will be saved because they can live long enough to get new livers.

Currently, the only way to extend the life such a sick patient is to use a very complicated "liver" machine. Guess how long a life can be extended by such a machine: only 1 - 3 days and the cost is (US dollar) $30,000 - $50,000.
