: These are the most durable, rated for 100 meters. They are suitable for high-speed water sports and recreational scuba diving up to 40 meters (130 feet).
: These are only splash-resistant. While they can handle rain or handwashing, submerging them is not recommended.
Recommended vs. Restricted Activities
Safe: Swimming in pools or oceans, exercising (sweat), and walking in the rain.
Use Caution: Showering is generally okay, but Apple recommends avoiding soaps, shampoos, and conditioners, as they can degrade the water seals over time.
Avoid: High-velocity water (like water skiing or jet skiing) for non-Ultra models, and high-temperature environments like saunas or steam rooms.
Bands: Not all bands are water-resistant. Avoid getting leather or stainless steel bands wet; instead, use silicone-based Sport Bands or the Ocean Band for water activities.
Important Maintenance Tips
Water Lock: This feature locks your screen to prevent accidental taps while in water. It usually turns on automatically during swimming workouts.
Ejecting Water: After getting out of the water, turn off Water Lock by pressing and holding the Digital Crown. Your watch will play a series of tones to vibrate and expel water from the speaker.
Post-Swim Care: If exposed to saltwater or chlorine, rinse your watch gently with fresh, warm water and dry it thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
