after Shingles (PHN)

My father is in hospital in China. He had surgery for rectal cancer last October. Two months ago he got shingels and it heeled in serveral weeks.Now he is very painful for the same area of shingles.I chceked the information in the website it called Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN). The pain is the most devastating pain in his life and worst than the surgery for cancer.Please give me some advise for treat PHN. Thank you very much in advance.
