father xy [bad x, or x-linked disease]
mother xx

possible outcome:
son xy [good x, from mother]
daughter xx [1/2 bad x from father, but because it is recessive, so she carries disease gene but has no disease]

In such case, seleting for male child only will get rid of the disease gene for ever.
