as a bargaining chip. You either leave your current company, or don't bring up the offer at all. You should never let your current boss know that you are looking for a job, unless you intend to leave your current position. Otherwise, you will be the first one to be cut come layoff time.
If you don't have any "loyalty" to your boss, why should he have any to you?
