- The term "Ah Cha (阿差)", is derogatory and its use should be avoided. It has the same effect as referring to a Chinese person as "Chinese Pig (大陸豬)". Due to it's colonial history, the Chinese in Hong Kong like to use derogatory terms when referring to foreigners. Chinese believes terms like Kwai-Lo (Devil White Man) are not offensive. The term "Ah Cha (阿差)" is seen and understood as exceptionally offensive and ugly. The term is banned by the Broadcasting Authority in Hong Kong and it's use in broadcasting is strictly prohibited. Complaints about the use of this word resulted in issuance of warnings to the Broadcasters. The word "Ah 阿" means "The". The word "Cha 差" means "lowly". The use of this term is usually intended to demean and degrade the Indians and Pakistanis and is meant to hurt. This term is used frequently in Hong Kong due to the fact that there are no effective laws against the use in public of derogatory racial epithets Hong Kong except the media. This term is only used in Hong Kong and is not in mainland China. The proper term to refer to Indians is "Indian National 印度人" which is pleasant and easy to use.--Chungkwok 13:53, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
