Is this doctor a asthma specialist or your son's pediatrician?

inhaling steroid is only for maintenance. under asthma attack, oral steroid is used as a general rule. if not used, wheezing and coughing can not stopped. usually they prescribe one full course (5 days) oral steroid for asthma attack. what i do is, after 3 days of taking oral steroid ( usually wheezing and coughing are gone by then) I take my son to doctor to have him checked again. If the lung function is ok( both volume and the shape of the loop) then I stop the oral steriod and resuming the inhaling maitenance medicine.

If Iwere you, I would be very worried if his lung function is too low. Need to get that back as soom as possible. The longer he stays this way, the more damage in his lungs.

People can end up in ICU when lung function drops around 20%.
