I believe what your Dad having is lung cancer with neuroendocrine features, right? So looks more like small cell lung cancer characters. What he is having could be SIADH, (syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone) causes salt/sodium levels of the blood to become very low. Symptoms of SIADH include fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle weakness or cramps, nausea, vomiting, restlessness, and confusion. Without treatment, severe cases may lead to seizures and coma. The cause of this condition is a hormone (ADH) that the cancer makes that causes the kidneys to retain water.
The SIADH has many many causes. IN this case, it could be caused by chemo, surgery, or indicative of residual tumor cells continuing making those ADHs, or indicative of tumor cell killing therefore releasing those ADHs. Worst of all, it could also suggest metastasis to brain stimulating the pituitary/hypothalamic tissues thus making more of the ADHs -- if this is in the differential considerations, then brain MRI with contrast should be performed.
The key is symptomatic treatment and close monitoring serum sodium and potassium as well as calcium leves!
Best of wishes!
