1. If you have type 1 diabetes, you will definitely need insulin forever unless there is breakthrough in diabetes management. Now there is inhaled insulin coming out, but I heard it is not as good.

2. For type 2 diabetes, first try diet and exercise, then oral medication, usually insulin is reserved for the last.
