VCUG is a routine exam for little girls after UTI (usually after 2nd one) and for boys even after the 1st UTI. The purpose is to exclude developmental anormalies. It is safe in terms of the procedure and the uretheral catheterization. The concern is more at the radiation to ovaries. You might want to have it done at a good hospital where digital fluroscopy is used. Most of the VCUG exans are negative, though.
