drug-induced abortion

Surgical abortion
Vacuum aspiration, also known as suction curettage, is the standard surgical abortion method in the U.S. for pregnancies in the first trimester, when 88 percent of legal abortions take place.
The cervix is enlarged to a diameter of about a half-inch, either by use of dilating rods or the drug misoprostol. The uterine contents are sucked out using a manual or electrical pump while the woman is under local anesthesia. Some women may have cramps afterward, and also intermittent bleeding for a week or two.
In any event, I would suggest you to have some one take you home after the procedure. Stay in bed for several days (depending on how serious the bleeding and cramping might be) and avoid walking stairs. Again in this period of time avoid cold water and food. You may start doing light exercises (in particular for abdominal muscles) during this period, as far as you are not bothered by pain. When you start to resume normal activity level, go gradually. You may take showers but not bath to prevent infection. Pay attention to nurtrition as if it is a yuezi. Since your uterus will not recover in 4 weeks, avoid sex for this interval (and when you do, don't make the same mistake again). Check with your doctor for the need of an appointment for evaluation post-partum.
