The 6 mm CBD is the diameter, which has a positive correlation with patient's age. Assuming you are younger than 35, it is slightly dialated. Anything, such as stone, along its course till its insertion to the duodenum can cause its dilatation. Howefver, it could mean nothing at all as some people has prominent CBD, and it also depends on how the technologist who performs the ultrasound was measuring. It could be 4 mm which is completely normal. It is only an ultrasound -- mainly to exclude gallstones, anyway.
For chronic cholecystitis, they usually do nuclear medicine scan to calculate ejection fraction of the gall bladder, besides clinical symptoms.
