Anyhow, her insurance company (State Farm) refused to pay for the damage despite of the fact that it was obviously all her fault and she received two different citations for the incident. So I filed a claim with my insurance company, Nationwide, and it paid $83 after I paid the $500 deductible. Meanwhile, Nationwide went through the arbitration process trying to get the $583 from State Farm, unsuccessfully. However, a local goverment agency called "Sentinal", which is an office that takes care of minor traffic accidents before they reached the court. After they talked with the other driver, she agreed to pay for my deductible in ten installments.
My original plan was to make $500 from the incident.
1. Hopefully State Farm will pay for the $500 deductible;
2. Sentinel will get $500 for me from the driver because I proofed that I spent $500 on my repair.
Looks like only plan 2 worked. But I didn't loose much except for time and energy and $10 mail fee for the checks. I even fixed some of the minor damages to my veichle previously all together. Overall I am happy.
Lessons to learn:
1. Always call your own insurance company for ANY accident;
2. Watch out for State Farm--it is a very profit-oriented company. It will deny claims from both its own clients and from non-client. I will never insure anything with it.
3. Drive carefully. Even if you do make money from your claims, it is not worth the hassel.
