Hiking Checklist
1. Hiking shoes. Don’t forget! Don’t laugh. It happened.
2. Wallet with cash, credit cards and ID
3. Cell phone. key in the phone numbers of each hiking mate in your group/vehicle
4. At least two pairs of hiking socks (liner and wool socks are preferred)
5. Sunglass and Sunscreen. Hat/Cap
6. Hiking poles. You’d be grateful for having them on your way up.
7. Light wind jacket for cold morning
8. Jacket and long pants. Temperature can get below 40’s at night
9. Small head light in case hiking after sunset (very like for rim-2-rim)
10. Sleeping bag, pad (mattress), pillow, a warm cap for a good night sleep
11. First aid kit; Muscle pain release gel and pad for those over 40
12. Crackers, Salty foods, Trail Mix, Hard Candy, sports drink (for electrolyte). Eat and drink in
small amount but frequently. Never eat too full
13. Water, at least four bottles (half liters) for each person. You can refill at stops on the way up
14. Small and light camera. Optional, of course
15. Poncho or light rain coat
16. Shampoo and bodywash. Some coins to operate the shower. Towel
17. Personal hygiene items. Bring some toilet tissue and paper towel just in case
18. A plastic (grocery) bag for packing garbage out
19. Don’t wear all cotton shirts to hike. You will be miserable when you are soaked by your own
sweat. Moisture repelling fabric is preferred.
20. Don’t pack heavy. Pack only necessities for hiking. Leave other items in the vehicle.
