DIY or hire a contractor?

Need to rent out the current house and move into a new place, we started to fix houses. Many jobs can be done by ourselves. We usually started asking around about materials/parts/tools/steps; watched some youtube video, and then followed the steps to finish the work.

There are some unexpected turns, for example, some parts supposedly come out by following steps, but it won't. We dared to use extra forces to pull parts out and turn it over to the contractors. Some places need special tools, the common household tools are not proper to handle them, and we turn them to contrators. Some jobs needed a crew of people to finish, and then we turned over to the contractors.

For many small fixes we could do, we spent lot of time of learning/exploring/trying. Is it worth of time to do those things ourselves? I have an important day job, it has distracted my attention to my day job and spent lot of times of searching parts/seeking suggestions.

How do you think?
