They allow much more physicality inside than they would tolerate on the wing, especially when those small, speedy guards are involved.

Kobe getting voted onto the 1st defensive team definitely has a lot to do with reputation, and probably the fact that you can't compare a defensive specialist and a guy who is supposed to cover both ends of the floor.
