It's all about lens

Forget about camera. A good lens can cost you $1000+ and you are serious you need the following lens: a wide (16/17/20/24mm), a mid range zoom (24mm - 135mm), a telephoto 70-200, maybe a few primes 35mm/50mm/85mm/135mm. All in all, they will run you about 3k to 5k. Nikon has good lens but they are all very expensive. Canon's L lens is very good and expensive. However, Canon has non L lens which not as sturdy built as L lens. Some are very good, e.g. 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 135mm f/2, they are some of the best lens you can ever have. So go to http://www.dpreview.com/ forums to see what other are saying about lens and go to http://www.fredmiranda.com/ for lens reviews. Once you decide on lens, tell you the truth, D70, 20D or 350D are all the same to you.
