前房客关于security deposit 的纠纷，我作为房主，有法律责任吗？

前房客是个警察。把房子弄了点小破坏，我检查后通知 property management （PM） 公司几处要修的，提供了维修的发票和收据，要求费用从security deposit中扣除几百块。

PM回复没有问题,寄了支票给我，余额寄给了前房客。

前房客收到后不同意，说问题是以前就有的，写了信“request the remainder of the deposit from home owner”. PM直接把信转给我，还说“If you don’t pay her she will be taking you to court.”。

可是，PM是租房合同上的房东，security deposit 也是PM扣的，就算前房客因为security deposit的纠纷上法庭，被告方也应该是PM，我的理解对吗？
