1.  Yes.  In college application, he will have to answer yes to "have you ever been Charged with a crime".   If he is convicted, he will have to answer yes to "Have you ever been convicted of a crime".  If he is lucky not to be convicted, a lawyer might be able to expunge his record, depend on state law.  I say "might", no gurrantees.  

2.  Yes, you need a lawyer. 

3. Find a lawyer.
