1. You are not "Loser", tough time, things happen;
2. "tank" is right, w/o income you won't get refi or loan mod;
3. claim EDD ASAP, use EDD $$ to cover mortgage and look for whatever jobs you can find(EDD will last you more than 1 year...)
4. Shortsale is considered as "mortgage late'(2-3 years) therefore your credit is impacted less than foreclosure(7 years), however if you want to try staying as long as possible you may stop payment now. One thing is that banks/lenders feel "comfortable" with foreclosure process within last 2 years, specially like WellsFargo, you might get your "Notice of Default" and "Auction Notice" on time.
5. With EDD income and your savings you should have more than 1 year of time to find another solution.
Losing home does not mean you lose your diginity...
