difficult situation

你这个例子典型的先下手为强。如果你确定现在没有别人能做，那你一定要把该有的title and responsiblity拿到. 如果现在不做，将来既成事实以后，你在闹，一个很困难，而且别人会觉得你不是teamplayer.  You will be looked upon as THE bad person.
我的经验，如果要fight，要等到有9成把握，现在你有B发的报告，在没有跟你同气前把C做成lead。你have every reason to go to A to ask him to explain what your responsibility is and how you should work with B and C in this situation.   See if A's explanation makes sense to you.  If he tells you it is a mistake.  then everything is good.  Depending on how confident you are and how hard you are willing to work, ask A to make B report to you.  B can be in charge of coordinating, but you will be the ultimate responsible person.   This is your decision.
If you are OK to not to do the project if you are not the named lead, you don't lose anything in fighting. 
To tell you the truth, it sounds like there are too many people playing politics here.  If A is not clear-headed, it will be very hard for you.  One day you will think if it is worthwhile for you to fight with those people.  However, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger.  This is also a great chance for you to practice your commnucation, interpersonal skills.  You have an advantage and opportunity here.  Use it now, or lose it. 
If you are ready to fight, think about how you should present yourself to A.  Don't make is sound like you are demanding the position.  Don't make him feel you are only going for the credit and you don't have enough soft skills to take the lead position.  Usually, approching people by asking questions is a safe way to go.
