customer is always right

You have the money, so you decide whether the air compressor is part of the cooling system in YOUR lab, and you don't take any excuses for their product not meeting the requirements. 

They admit that they "forgot" to mention you must have the air compressor in order to make their product work? Well, bad for them, it is their problem, either fix it at their own costs or take their damn machine home.
