career path: IT or Chemistry

I just moved to SF bay area from New England two months ago and found 
there aren't a lot of biotech companys here and pay was very low. 
I have a BS in Chemistry and MS in Computer information Systems. I 
don't have any IT experience, because when I graduated in 2003, It was 
very hard to find a IT job. so I got a job at biotech company and 
worked in analytical chemistry field since then. I don't know if it is 
a good idea for me to switch to IT, or if It is too late.
