I heard this second-handly at a training course. Another manager brought this case up for us to discuss. She had a Chinese employee, very technical, very good at fulfilling tasks, but did not put in 100%, merely completing his tasks. he was the only one who can use a particular program. he was not happy with his title etc. and was considered at "high-risk for fly". So she brought in 3 different people (one white male, one white female, one chinese female) to download his knowledge. Not very successful. He still had control over the hard core of that program and never really taught others how to use it. this manager at that training was trying to get input on how to get rid of this "low performer" and got his knowledge. don't know what is status now. But very likely, this person was let go, well I would.
