You can do it! There is a way you can try:

Watch more english movies.

One of my friend (and also my co-worker) is a korean girl (she came to US during high school time), and now her English is damn good. She told me she watched a lot of english movies. Almost every movies I can tell a name or give a brief description, she tells me she watched it and gives me the details.

Another of my Indian labmate told me that he also told me that he watched a lot of english movies so he has no problem in communicating with US people including jokes.

My point is, watch those movies telling stories about our lives in reality (not those action/war movies). The conversations in the movies are close/similar to those we hear in the real life. If you specifically interested in jokes, maybe more comedies.

Pick a few of your favorite movies, ideally with both english and chinese subtitle incase you need, repeatedly watch it for many time untill you understand every single word/joke. Hehe...

Hehe my English is not good, so my idea might not be convincing. Justjust is good at English, maybe he has some good ideas.

小谋啊,you are young and smart, I don't see why you can't do it? Just go all out and you'll see.
