Group email is more general, it is for everyone in the department.

You can always preface it by saying something like this:"I know that my name is on some of your lists already, but in case it isn't ..."

Generally speaking, I prefer the approach of reaching out first when something is bothering me. Communication is a very important part of handling interpersonal relationships.
