You need to build the case.
You could chat with your boss about the revene/profit/your contribution at lunch table. You need to write the design change vs. yield improvement percentage into your daily/weekly/monthly report. Your employer, or your boss knowing the revenue, should be able to convert that into profit. When you have chance to select projects, select those projects with "meat", and with good visibility. Try to work for excuctives, or the person who have a "loud voice" in your company. Build a good relationship with him, and let him speak out for you at performance evaluation.
