can you light the pilot at all?

turn the knob to pilot, press down and hold, push the ignitor button, and see if the pilot is lit at all. can you see the spark? (you may need to turn off light in the room to see it things better). if the pilot can be lit but won't stay on after you release the pilot knob, then it is the thermocouple. you can get one in Homedepot for $10. if you cannot see spark, search on youtube by symptom.
