One can hide behind "potentials" only for so long. Beyond the grace/honeymoon/probationary/trial/development period those who still fail to perform/deliver/mail rain have to go somewhere - do you chalk them up to the deadwood pile/charity rolls for years to come, or, as labor market laws would dictate, mercilessly show them the door?
And remember, unless you are the owner of the business, one misstep may someday - and this someday may come sooner than you may ever think possible, put you in the unsavory group of underperformers ...
