Always learn a lot from the parents here, now it is time to contribute a bit.
Saw a post the other day asking about private school or public school. It seems to be an annual discussion whenever new school year or registration for new school year starts.
Just saw a study today about private vs. public school in the US. Let's assume most parents here are in US (sorry to you Canadians).
The Department of Education chartered a survey in 2006, based on test scores from 2003. The result is that by 8th grade, the private school students scored on average less than 20 points higher on average, compared to those from public schools, on reading and math.
For those that worry about academic achievements between private and public schools, I hope this result serves as some assurance that the public schools are not THAT bad.
Of course one could not comment on the "soft" skills kids pick up from private schools compared to public school. My recent experience with the public school system is that it is pretty bureaucratic...
