These are not perfectly analogous schools, but here is my list ---Augustus Zhao, a Harvard and MIT graduate
UC Berkeley = Harvard . UC Berkeley is the most prestigious public school (don’t troll with US News rankings), including for undergrad. Harvard is the most prestigious in its group.

Virginia = Yale. Like Yale, Virginia is strong in the liberal arts and weak in engineering. Virginia has more students from established families and feels like a private school except for its size. Yale is not more upper class than Harvard to the same degree that Virginia is more than Berkeley, but Harvard was historically more open to non-established families. Until quite recently, Virginia was the second most prestigious public school. Yale has held up better than Virginia has.

Michigan = Princeton. Historically Michigan was the third most prestigious public school, like Princeton was third among private schools. Michigan is stronger than Virginia in STEM, similar to the Princeton-Yale comparison. This is where my analogy falls apart: both nationally and internationally, Michigan is much more widely known than Virginia. This is the opposite of the Princeton-Yale comparison; Yale is more famous than Princeton. Socially Michigan is between Virginia and Berkeley.

UCLA = Stanford. Both are recent arrivals to the highest levels of prestige in their respective categories. Somewhat like the Stanford-Harvard relationship, UCLA is challenging Berkeley because of its perceived superiority in location.

Georgia Tech = MIT. Both are known for top engineering and CS programs, and are rising in prestige as a result. Georgia Tech doesn’t dominate engineering as much as MIT does. The top engineering students attending public colleges are almost all at Berkeley. I say this because I’m a PhD student at MIT now and I’ve met many MIT PhD students who went to Berkeley for undergrad, but I haven’t met anyone at MIT who went to Georgia Tech for undergrad.
