I have multiple conversation with multiple language art teachers (including GT terachers) about this subject, to your surprise, the answers are along the same line:
Kids speak a second language at home actually doing better if not the same in language art class. The teachers have given me examples with kids from Germany, France, China, Russia, etc.
My kid was speach and debate captain in High School.
