For your last question, yes, i tried. But it's hard to do, more than 60%(at least) had "unfair advantages" by my standards, e.g. where and how could a 10th gr. come up with PH.D. level approach and resource(human blood cell clones) to do reasearch project related to leukemia?

How many people in our society want to do science research? It's hard and low pay comparing to wall street.  I feel the whole mentality is encouraging young people to develope life passion to do science.

What really bothers me is that a significant % of winners don't have genuine passion for science, yet they reap the glory to aid themselves into top colleges.
