Well, I think the point here is not about the differences in quoting whatever/whoever.
Human society is by definition messy. Certain models might work for certain society during a certain period of time, and they might also fail, and be replaced by a different model.
Democracy might have worked in the past couple of hundred of years in certain parts of the world and it might be the best model after all. However, one should not dismiss the possibility that other models might also work or even work better than democracy (in whatever practical form), albeit in a messy way.
