Pre-Forclosre house

I was bidding a pre-forclosure house over the weekend, here is the recap:

1) The previous owner bough it at 325K about the 1 year ago, for whatever reason, they stop the payment and moved out. The house is listed at 299.7K

2) I offered 260K last week, the realtor said my offer is higher than another bid which is 235K. He told me he would talk to the bank which is Countrywide to see it it is ok.

3) we started the talk on Wednesday and was rejected on Friday, both my realtor and I were puzzled because we think the offer is fair. Altthough the house is probably worth about 320K, the housing market is no long as robust as before here (Southeast US). They don't have other offers at this moment.

4) The listing realtor said the sale date was last Friday, the house was not sold for sure. But when I check the MLS listing this morning, the house is no longer listed on the website!

Anybody has any clues what is going on here? Is there anything I should do difefrently? Or, any inputs on the pre-foreclosure bidding process is welcome.
