The only way you can get W2 wage is you are an employee of an employer. The employer can be other people's company or your own company. If it is your own company, it has to be S corp or C corp. For most small businesses, C corp is not a good choice. S Corp is more common. If you elect your biz as a S corp (file Form 2553), as the shareholder, you have to put yourself on the payroll and pay yourself a reasonable salary. But please remember, W2 wages are expensive compensation: you will have to pay payroll taxes for the salary(EE and ER portion of social security and medicare, ER paid FUTA and SUTA), of course you can earn points towards social security benefits if you have not reached the minimum requirement. For small biz, LLC is popular. INC by default is C corp. Both LLC and INC can elect to be S corp. DBA is not a form of business, it is just the nickname for the biz.
