普通人如何才能进行投资？

各位地主好，

我们在加拿大；本人四十多点，做专业工作，年薪六万多；刚刚被裁员。
太太做普通工作，年薪两万多点；小朋友两个，都在小学。
家庭存款永远是四位数，房子25万，按揭还有二十年。

现在在准备简历找工作，同时想梳理一下自己的思路，将来的路如何走。

人到中年，事业说不上成功，离年轻时的梦想还远；家庭收入不高，生活中消费处处治轴，一直有危机感，但是没有被逼到份儿上，一直将就着过。现在失业了，也是个改变的机会。

来年开春前应该会找到新工作，现在才吃救济。可是自己也不想这么永远坐班，挣死工资。所以想趁老之前，折腾折腾。

我的目标是做些关于房产开发之类的东西，因为我本事是搞建筑相关工作的，有兴趣，有知识；但是没钱投资。

敢问各位像我这种普通百姓，如何才能走出第一步。
