I worked for this bank before. They had the same deal a few years ago. The principal is FDIC insured, since it is just a type of CD, called Index CD. However, unlike other CDs with fixed-rate, this Index CD’s Iivestment return ties to Hansen Great China Index. This kind of investment is good for conservative investors without worries about losing principals but at advantage of betting on the Great China economy growth. If you are an aggressive investor, it would not be a good choice for you. Its website provides the information about how to calculate the return.

Frankly, I did purchase some CDs this time. However, I worry about how far Great China Economy can go. Anyway, I still can change my mind by this month-end. My hu*****and calls it a forced-saving, since it is a five-year term. When the money is available for me I always want to use it for travelling or luxury goods. This time I cannot touch this portion of my moeny for at least 5 years.
