请教经验--1family怎样转2family

请教有经验的地主-- 本人有一1family（纽约皇后区），地上两层，半地库--前车库（walk in)，后地室（1大半在地上，窗在地上）.

想改成合法两家庭，不知可否？我看到邻居家一样的房型，不少早已合法改成两家庭。有的不是现owner改的，问不出所以。

请指点，如有很给力的建筑师，请推荐。

（都是给疯狂飞涨的地产税给逼的，觉得养不起房了）。
