有必要给老房子入水管装过滤器的吗？

问问地主们，有必要给老房子入水管装过滤器的吗？

我的一栋房子的热水锅炉坏了，一查是热传感器被水里的杂质搞坏了，干脆换了一个新锅炉，水暖工跟我讲， 最好在主管道入水口处装一个过滤器，定期更换过滤芯，还建议我其它几栋房子也装，我问了周边朋友，都没有听说过，所以来这里请教一下。

如果要装，费用是多少？
