I lived in East coast for 15 years, west coast for 5 years. I owned many houses. And I have countless winters with snows. I never remember one instance I have to worry about snow on my roof. If you have to shovel the snow from your roof, your house must have a bad design or lack of insulation layer in the attic. Then this is a house you should buy in the first place.
Anyway, that's not my point. My point is, whether or not there is snow on the roof or humidity in Florida has nothing to do with investment. We are here to discuss investment, not to discuss personal life preference. Investing decision shall have nothing to do with personal life preference. If CA has all the advantage to live a life, but not for making money, then it's not attractive to me. The problem with CA is I can't put down enough money to buy a house. If I borrow 800K to buy an investment house there, I will use up all my borrowing power, that's not a sound business decision for me, or for anyone. That's why well-to-do Californians are already spreading out their wealth to less expensive locales throughout the US.
Investing decision has nothing to do with whether or not the place is good for living.
Sigh..., from what you read, you haven't traveled much...
