just want to pour a little cold water on any BMW fan

mechancially it is super, high performance and safe. Electroncially it is just junk. Therefore unless you are either rich or very handy, BMW might not be your car, especially for daily communte.  Furthermore, based on Consumer Report, general German vehicles are less reliable than American vehicles.
