Horizontal well comes with directional drilling technology. Field Engineer can read the data when controlling the drilling direction toward oil/gas rich area.  It improves the sucess rate of the well.  Most horizontal wells will become production well if the area is proven.  Vertical well has much higher failure rate than horizontal well.
