I have a different perspective on this topic.

It is not that I don't agree to your opinion. It is simply a different point of view.

I think in general Chinese are not very good at thinking abstractly. It is a misconcept that Chinese are good at math. We are just good at arithmetic, the most elementary branch of mathematics. Math is much more than that. 

Of course, my observation are derived from people I have talked to. The sample size is statistically too small to make any conclusion. From my experience, the graduates from top American colleges have much better understanding in math, physics and computer science than those from top Chinese colleges. They are also much more creative. This doesn't exclude the possibility that the same pool of chinese students would outscore the american students in standard tests. Quite possibily, it would be the case. The real life and work are not standard tests, though.
