请问小孩没有SSN或ITIN是不是不能用Turbotax报税？

10年10月中旬一家三口来美的，LG一人工作，L签证。我俩有SSN，但小孩没有。第一年是请CPA报税的，今年想自己试试看。但据说用turbotax小孩没有ssn或itin的话不能直接用软件报，必须自己填表并且同时给小孩申请ITIN。是这样吗？如果是，为什么不能用软件报呢？
