AGI和孩子上大学的 financail aid

去年因为孩子上大学,想多存点钱,我们两人都没有存401K.结果今年算税才发现去年的AGI增加33K.孩子好象一点financial aid 都拿不到了.白白给美国政府和学校送33K. 对只拿pay check的家庭, FA和 AGI 直接相关吗? 谁有这方面的经验呀, 指点一下.
